Altering Calendar Settings

To whom it may concern,

When I assign tasks, they are extended over the weekend. This is not an accurate refelction of the workweek and the time spent on the task. I would like to be able to assign tasks and have them span over a normal work week i.e. not including the weekends/holidays, similar to options available in Microsoft Project Schedule. Is this possible?
