Cascading milestones, tasklists, and tasks

Cascading milestones, tasklists, and tasks

Guys,

In most areas - tasks are not displayed in a cascading style, as in, they do not include information about the milestone and tasklist they belong to.

This means that if you have if you have tasks which have the same name, but that belong to different tasklists and milestones, you can end up with reports which are very difficult to understand. In addition, if you wish to move tasks from one list to another, you've a high likelihood of also moving the wrong task, etc..

I have had to work around this by including info about the milestone and task list within the task name.

Example:

Milestone - Alpha
+ Dev feature 1
+ Testing feature 1

Milestone - Beta
+ Dev feature 1
+ Testing feature 1

In this case, the 'testing feature 1' would be displayed side-by-side in the gantt chart/list-view. I believe Microsoft Project works around this by including the tasklist/milestone in the gantt chart/list view.

Finally, the gantt chart chops the end of lengthy task names which means that you're unable to distinguish between tasks with similar names.

Cheers,
