Disabled RTF the grey box appears below the field

Disabled RTF the grey box appears below the field

I have a disabled RTF after several fields that are hidden. They grey shading that indicates the field is disabled appears 2 inches below the field. This is about where it would be if the hidden fields were displayed. I have the same result in FF and Chrome.
