Group Lookup Field List records

I am using the lookup field (Student Name) on a form that is based on another form that has multiple records for each student. Thus, I could have five records for the same Jon Smith student. In the lookup field it will list John Smith five times. How do I get the lookup field to group the like records so only one record for each student is displayed in the list?
