How do I add a custom field to the member portal sign up page

I saw a post 3 months ago that your engineers were working on adding the ability to put custom fields on your member sign up page.   Has that happened?  Any update on when that might happen?

Also, is there a way to automatically trigger a member sign up.    So I would create my own sign up page and put code on that page to trigger the member sign up.   This way I can capture as much data as I need to and still track members.
