Have you think about interactive header?:

Space between company logo and SignOut link, above menu bar , is now blank - but it'll be great to have ability to load some constant HTML-view here, where we can notify users about some events, chnages, give him portion of important information and so on. In settings we can change time, when this html-view will be refreshed
