We have now extended the support of Layout Rules to the Release layout. You can now control how information should be displayed, organized, or action to be triggered based on the conditions. This stipulates how a specific release should be carried out and ensures that the workflow doesn't face any deviation from the set process. Users can view only select fields based on the rule/ condition set for the layout.
Use cases
Case 1: Dynamic Field Visibility: Control the field visibility based on the other field values using the Show or Hide criteria.
For instance: If Release Type is Major Release, the below fields will be listed:
- Release Notes
- Deployment Plan
- Rollback Plan
If Release Type is Hotfix, the below fields will show up:
- Ticket ID
- Fix Description
Case 2: Conditional Mandatory Fields: Mandate required fields when a specific condition is met.
For instance: If the Production field is updated to Environment, the below fields will be marked as mandatory:
- Approval from Release Manager
- Deployment Window
The Release Manager User field becomes mandatory when Approval from Release Manager is selected.
This will ensure that all checkpoints are covered before releasing the feature to customer environments.
Case 3: Workflow Control: Enforces users to move only to a particular status from the current status.
For instance: When the release status is updated to Planning, the next status that the user can select will be Ongoing.
This streamlines status transitions by showing only the logical next steps, preventing any deviation in the process and reducing errors.
Using Layout rules in Release reduces, incorrect entries, missing data, user confusion. They ensure that the release records are orderly managed in case there is a need to retrospect.
