We buy trucks, manufacture a body for the truck, and then sell it. We currently use an excel spreadsheet to manage all the information about the truck itself. Once a build is assigned to the truck we fill in all the columns that relate to the build of the truck. Lastly the sheet has a bunch of columns related to sales information once it's sold.
We use this same sheet to forecast future needs.
I've been playing with the idea of moving from a spreadsheet storing this information to creating a database with Creator. We are not currently using Zoho CRM (or anything Zoho) but would consider switching if this will work.
1) We will continue to use our verticle ERP system to manage work orders and raw material inventory
2) Trucks will be manually added to the database when they are ordered from truck dealers
3) Once a build is assigned/created in our ERP with a truck, the build specifciations and information will be added to the truck, including the price of the build
4) PRIMARY QUESTION: We then would like our sales people to be able to quote a specific unit through Zoho CRM. Thinking of how this might work, each truck is given a "stock #" which is the Work Order number from our ERP system. I'm hoping our sales people could view a list of the truck inventory that is completed or in production, select a specific unit that meets the customers needs and then the specifications and pricing related to that specific unit will populate the quote. Is this doable (when I say doable I mean without it being a huge developer project and something we could keep simple).
A few more steps further:
5) Could a quote that is turned to an order generate a process to associate the specific unit to an account? We would use this information to easily see past purchases and keep track of issues/changes to specific units post sale.
6) If we set up creator to give us the ability to quote specific units of inventory as described above, will we face challenges quoting non-stock items? in other words, I picture in stock truck inventory coming form one list/database and quoting of "Made to Order" trucks coming from the products tables in CRM where sales people would simply pick the base model and the options the customer wants for a made to order build.
In a way, I feel the top portion of this post is speaking very similiar to a car dealership who needs the ability to quote and sell specific units. They may have (5) Ford Focuses on their lot but each one carries a different VIN, slightly different features, and different pricing. So they need the ability to choose a specific unit to have pricing and features loaded on to their quote/invoices for customers.
Additionally, they would need the ability to "build" a quote to quote customers who are looking for something that is not on their lot but can be ordered from factory.
