Would like to learn more about using built in functions

Hi,

While there is some information in the Help on the definitions of built in functions, there is little in the way of examples on how to use them to make your application more powerful and elegant. I'm guessing that some of the functions are fairly standard amongst many database platforms so there most something in the way of resources to teach me how to use these even if there are not directly related to Zoho?? Are there some example of how to use and call these functions in the Help files that I am missing?

I thought I had seen some in the forum but its not so easy to find these posts with the search engine. In fact is it just me or do other people have difficulty searching for posts. Have all the post from the previous forum platform been integrated into the new platform? Sorry I digress.

My enquiry stems from the fact that I want to use a built in function to update a number field when a single line field either contains a string or not. I think it involves using the length() function but I'm not sure how to construct the script? Any pointers would be appreciated.
