I've moved to Zoho in the weekend after finally getting total sick of outlook.com's buggy interface.
Now that I'm here, it's really easy to see that much, if not all, of the mail interface has been designed by developers. The feature set is quite good (some features are better than gmail and outlook), but the UX is reasonably horrible.
Some things that I've immediately noticed:
- The whole site has a really dated feel to it. There are hardly any modern aspects to it except the occasional AJAX save. There are only a very limited set of themes, all of which are essentially the same with a slightly different pastel.
- There's inconsistency with the design all over the show.
- There should be an option to permanently show the conversation view for those of us coming off platforms that are conversation oriented, like outlook.com and gmail instead of having to repeatedly turn it on. Generally conversation views are handier than individual emails. If you do click the conversation icon, for some reason the mail list disappears, which forces me to navigate back and forth repeatedly.
- The conversation hierarchy view is not great. The way gmail and outlook.com do this is much neater. The hierarchy itself adds little or nothing to my productivity. I just want to see a list. If there is a hierarchy, this could probably shown more subtly without the indentation.
- Folders don't remain open once you refresh the page, which is inconvenient.
I'll add to this thread as I discover more things. Other may like to add to this too.
Note that there is a bug on the birthday calendar. I updated the birthdays because they got imported incorrectly, but the changes don't show up on the calendar. Does it require a background catch-up process to run?
