Fighting spam together - Enforcing SPF, DKIM and DMARC for '@zoho.com' accounts

In continuation to our efforts in fighting spam and preventing abuse of our service, we plan to implement stricter measures for outgoing emails, to help the recipient servers identify spam generated using @zoho.com email addresses. This will include the publishing of SPF, DKIM and DMARC records for the zoho.com domain subsequently in coming months.

The reputation as a service provider and the reputation of the domain zoho.com gets affected when spoofed emails with @zoho.com email addresses are used for sending spam to other recipient servers. These emails are not even sent via Zoho Servers and in some cases, such email address do not even exist in Zoho servers.

Hence as the first step, we plan to change the SPF record of zoho.com to implement stricter mechanism, to denote hard fail of emails that do not pass the SPF test. If the external recipient email servers receive an email from the IP address which is not listed in our SPF records, they will mark the emails as Spam and process further based on their individual spam policies (Some providers reject SPF failed emails, certain providers mark them as Spam etc).

This will ensure that the authentic and genuine emails with proper content being sent by '@zoho.com', from Zoho Mail account or from native mobile apps are marked genuine by the recipient servers and not marked as Spam.

In case, if any of you use ‘ username@zoho.com’ email address from external services or apps, but without  the Zoho SMTP settings in those apps to send the emails, you may need to check and change your settings to ensure that the genuine emails you send from those apps do not get marked as spam.
