Hi Zoho Projects Team,
I would like to submit a feature request to enhance the GitHub integration in Zoho Projects by adding the ability to initiate a GitHub branch directly from a Task or Bug.
The Current Limitation:
Currently, Zoho Projects lacks a native way to create a GitHub branch from within the platform. Developers must manually navigate to GitHub, select the repository, and choose a base branch. Most importantly, they must manually remember to include the Zoho Task/Bug ID in the branch name to ensure the integration links the code back to the task.
Why This Is a Problem:
Context Switching: Developers are forced to leave Zoho Projects to start their work, breaking their focus.
Naming Inconsistency: Without automation, branch names often lack the required Task ID, leading to "orphaned" branches that are difficult to trace.
Migration Barrier: In Jira, this is a native, standard feature. This missing functionality makes Zoho Projects a much weaker migration path for engineering teams moving from Jira who expect modern, IDE-connected workflows.
Requested Enhancement:
Repository Selection: Choosing from connected GitHub repositories.
Auto-Generated Naming: Pre-filling the branch name with the Task/Bug ID and title (e.g., feature/SD1-I17-login-fix).
Standardized Templates: Support for prefixes like feature/ or bugfix/.
Native Linking: Automatically associating the new branch with the Zoho work item upon creation.
The Benefits:
Stronger Traceability: Guarantees a 1:1 link between code and tasks from the moment work begins.
Efficiency: Faster branch creation with fewer naming mistakes.
Competitive Edge: Providing these "active" development features is essential for attracting and retaining teams accustomed to the Jira ecosystem.
Thank you for considering this request to bring Zoho Projects up to the professional standard expected by modern development teams.
Best regards,
Ram
