Contacts: first name = required field

Contacts: first name = required field

We are using VO in Germany. In our business field we do not use the first name in our correspondence - we use to take the last name only. And sometimes we do not even know the first name of our contact. So it is a problem for us to have the first name as a required field.
Is there any solution for this problem?
