Deprecation of Google Drive and Google Sheets in default connections

Deprecation of Google Drive and Google Sheets in default connections

Starting from August 15, 2024, Google Drive and Google Sheets services will no longer be available as default services in Zoho Desk.

Reason for deprecation: Google has identified sensitive scopes within the Google Drive and Google Sheets connections, prompting us to deprecate these connectors from the default services as a precautionary measure to enhance security.
Scopes removed from Google connection
In this regard, we would like to notify you that the following restricted scopes have been removed from the Google connection:

Impact
  • Existing connections using the default Google Drive and Google Sheets services will cease to function after the specified date.
  • Users cannot create new connections with these services under the default services.
  • Extensions relying on these default connections will also cease to function properly.
How to continue utilizing Google Drive and Google Sheets

Integrating Google Drive and Google Sheets with custom service connections: Users can continue to use Google Drive and Google Sheets by creating custom service connections. This method allows for the use of these services with scopes tailored to specific use cases.

Follow these steps to switch to custom service:
  1. Create custom connections with the appropriate scopes, similar to the default connections.
  2. Replace the default connection link name with the custom connection service link name in the custom functions.
Users must manually update all instances of the affected connections with the new custom connections in all custom functions.

Updating extensions with custom service connections: If your extensions are utilizing the scopes of Google Drive and Google Sheets with default connections, you should create a custom service connection and update your extensions to ensure smooth operation.

Follow these steps to update extensions:
  1. Once the developer includes and publishes the extension with the custom connection, the extension will be updated with the new connection link name details.
  2. Click the Update option next to each extension that involves custom connections.
If the update option does not appear after publishing the custom functions, disable the extension and wait for the update option to be reflected.
      3. Reauthorize the services under the connections.
      4. Re-enable the extension.

We acknowledge that this change might need modifications on your end, and we really appreciate your cooperation and understanding. Kindly update your connections by August 15, 2024 to prevent any potential interruptions.

We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for you. If you have any concerns or need support, feel free to get in touch with us at support@zohodesk.com.
