Is there a way to see current backlog by resource?
I'm trying to understand the "Resource Utilization" view. The view overstates the work allocated for all tasks that are progressed, but not complete. Even tasks that are 90% complete show all the original hours remain in the resource's workload. Perhaps other users require "allocated hours" to show originally assigned hours for some reason, but switching the view to "available hours" makes no difference. The numbers are inaccurate because the calculation is not considering all the work that has been done on incomplete tasks.
For more background, this is our use case:
- we hold daily stand-up meetings for a 7-person team
- each person on the team has a capacity of about 30-hours of task-work per week
- we update tasks before the meeting for work completed or progressed (% complete entered)
- we review the allocation by resource daily to check if anyone will need help from teammates to complete the tasks within deadlines and to re-balance work
- to determine who might be overloaded and who can help out, we need to see an accurate total of hours of work remaining; it overstates everyone's backlog however due to not considering the % complete values entered
We are unable to assess the current status of work remaining by resource in the current time period. Is there a setting we can change to have the report consider the percentage complete on a task? Or, is there another way to see an accurate value for backlog remaining (or truly available hours) to allow project managers to assign tasks to resources who actually have the capacity to do them?
Thank you.
