Linking the proces to the candidate and the client contact to the job opening

We wish to link a client contact to the job opening and not just the client, since larger companies often have a large amount of contacts for the different departments, is this possible?
Also is it possible for the Status of the candidate to change automatically during the process? for instance when you mail the candidate that it changes, when you submit a candidate to a client etc.
