Zoho Sign's intended design is offering two actions to the recipient - Needs to sign (if you wish your recipient to add information to the document; signature, for instance) or Approver (someone who has to approve the content of the document and must be part of the document workflow).
In our recent maintenance check, we found out that users were able to add signer fields for approvers when the workflow was triggered from our APIs or through mail merge templates (from Zoho Writer, Zoho People, or other Zoho applications).
We are planning to address this as per the application's intended behavior, however, considering many users might have configured workflows with this recipient action, we are enforcing this restriction on the 10th of January 2025.
To reiterate, if you want your recipients to fill some information in the document, they must be assigned the "Needs to sign" role, or if you want your recipients only to review the document content, they must be assigned the "Approver" role.
