Rules Question

I am trying to use a multiple rules on one type of form to show only fields from one drop down field. The drop down has 3 fields that have four other fields related to each selection. When a field is selected, I only want the fields related to selection to show up. Do I use the hide selection or the show selection? If I use the hide, they are not there when I go to write the next rule.
