I've just realized that although the application will show me

1) how many of an item were originally ordered

and

2) how many have been invoiced

There is no ability to show this on a sales order template in the sales order at the line item level.

A better requirement would be to have a column for "Quantity Ordered" and a column for "Quantity Open".  This is helpful for communicating current status with a customer and even for internal communications.

The same should also be available for invoices. This way a customer could see that the quantity ordered was short-shipped or actually shipped complete.

This data is available and it might be nice for it to be made available to the end-users directly in the template customization options.
