SMTP authentication doesn't seem to work

SMTP authentication doesn't seem to work

Is SMTP authentication actually required to send emails within the same domain? It seems this is switched off at Zoho. I get a lot of spam where the sender email address is the same as my email address. With a simple requirement for SMTP authentication when sending within my domain, I would be able to fight this spam. Is there any possibility??
