Solution to duplicate records? How to merge to not lose candidate information?

Duplicate candidates - has there been any progress on dealing with issue. I see from an earlier post some 6 months ago this should be fixed by now (https://help.zoho.com/portal/en/community/topic/duplicate-candidate-records). I am getting lots of duplicate records when adding candidates from outlook where they have both a resume AND a covering letter (or second attachment). Has anybody found a solution to this. If I simply delete the 'duplicate' record then I am also deleting the cover letter as well. I should not have to manually save and then re-add to the correct candidate record. Seems a basic requirement...
