Table Formatting

Hello,
Why does Writer not respect my word table columns, borders etc?
Also some of my fonts don't show up. (check marks -- (wingdings))
I've taken a screen a couple of screen shots. 1 how it looks in OpenOffice & 1 in Writer.
Is there something that can be done to respect the tables within Writer?
