How do I set up Vacation so that requests that overlap calendar year's do not remove vacation allowance from the current calendar year? (We refresh the # of Vacation days January 1st of each year)

Example:

Jane has 3 vacation days left in 2023 

Jane request 7 vacation days from December 27, 2023 to January 5 2024. 

2023 vacation will be used up for December,27, 28 and 29. BUT the January request should come out of Janes 2024 vacation allowance.

How do I set this up so that it doesn't take 2024 requests from the 2023 vacation days?
