zoho on behalf of ....
I've been using Zoho for quite a while now, and all the time, I have "sent e-mail as" using an e-mail address supplied by one of my alma maters. This e-mail address is offered to alumni as a forwarding service only -- that is, there is no "mail service" through that address, no server to check with that address, etc. It is only and solely a forwarding service. The point of it is to allow those who choose to use it to have one e-mail address forever, and address that, because it forwards to wherever you tell it to, you never need change even if you change underlying clients and servers.
One of the reasons I chose Zoho was because it was one of the few that did the job for me without including the e-mail address of itself in my return address. But that has changed, relatively recently I assume because it's only relatively recently that people have started asking me when I changed my e-mail. I didn't. Everything is the same, but now all e-mail sent from zoho include my zoho e-mail address "on behalf of" my permanent e-mail address.
The whole thing simply doesn't work if the zoho address shows up at all. Now I have several dozen people running around who have altered my contact info to reflect the zoho address, which is completely and absolutely what I wanted to avoid. I don't have any SMTP info to put in -- I have to use the zoho SMTP because the permanent e-mail address supplied by my alma mater is nothing more than a forwarding service!
This is a serious enough issue that I abandoned Google over it. I may abandon Zoho over it. Any advice would be appreciated.
