Tip #07: Five best defaults in Writer you can change to complement the way you work

Find yourself adjusting settings to the way you like every time you create a new document? Try tweaking the default settings instead.

From font styles to auto correct options and more, here are the five best defaults settings you can control.

1. Default font style

Use your favorite typography across all your documents. You can customize a font style by adding a color, adjusting its size and more, and then set it as default.

To do this, go to More Options > Format > Font. Choose a font style and customize it the way you want. Once you're happy with the style you've chosen, go to Default, check the option Set as default for all new documents and click OK.

  2. Default View

How you view all your documents is completely up to you as well. You can choose between Page View and Web View, and set either of them as default for all your new documents.

To do this, click on the gear shaped icon on the top right corner of the editor > Settings > Preferences > choose your Default Document View  and click  Save.

  3. Default Paste

When you paste something to Writer, you can choose between three paste options—as plain text, by retaining the source formatting or by matching it with the format of the destination. Choose how you want to paste content and set this as default across all your documents.

To do this, click on the gear shaped icon on the top right corner of the editor > Settings > Preferences > Paste. Choose your default format and click Save.

Writer has a wide range of list styles including symbols, images and more. You can set any of these as the default list style across all your documents.

To set a list style as default, go to More Options > Format > Paragraph and choose the style you want. Now right-click on the list and select the Set as Default option.
