Hi Zoho Projects Team,
I am submitting a feature request to introduce Smart Commits support for the GitHub integration in Zoho Projects.
The Current Limitation:
Currently, Zoho Projects offers a "passive" integration. Including a Task ID in a commit message merely links the code to the issue in a read-only format. It does not allow the developer to perform any actions within Zoho Projects without leaving their terminal/IDE.
Time Logging (#time): Automatically logging work hours directly to the task’s timesheet (e.g., [#SD1-I17] #time 2h 30m).
Commenting (#comment): Adding a comment to the task feed without opening the Zoho UI.
Status Transitions (#status): Moving a Task or Bug to a new status (e.g., #close, #in-review, or #done) based on the project's workflow.
Data Accuracy: Developers are much more likely to log time and update statuses if they can do it "on the fly" while committing code. This leads to far more accurate project reporting for management.
Eliminating Redundancy: Currently, our developers perform "double work"—once in GitHub and once in Zoho. This creates friction and reduces productivity.
The Migration Path: For any team migrating from Jira, the absence of Smart Commits is a significant downgrade in workflow automation. Implementing this would remove a major barrier for engineering-heavy organizations choosing Zoho Projects.
Best regards,
Ram
