Adding Participants to Event via Workflow or Custom Function?

Is this possible.  I am adding an Event using the Create method in a custom function.  Is it possible to add participants to that event in the custom function?

Basically what I am trying to do is send out an invite for the event that was created.  I haven't found a way to do this using automation.
