Customize search results layout

Customize search results layout

How can I customize the information that displays in the search results.  I can get the contacts and results that I want but I canot see on that search results page the information that I want to see without having to click through and open the item.

I want the search results page to show "relevant" information for me. I saw one post which said it was Setup>Customozation>SearchLayouts but I do not have that showing at all.  I have >modules showing but Search is not one of the modules.
