DabbleDB closing
Yesterday, the companies involved announced that Twitter has acquired DabbleDB. Customers will get 60 days notice if Twitter decides to shut DabbleDB down, but the early indications are that Twitter doesn't want to be in the database business. They bought the company to get its brainpower, not its technology.
I LOVE DabbleDB. My company originally tested it versus Zoho Creator, and picked DabbleDB because it had all the functionality we needed, with better pricing, and an easier user interface. This was several years ago -- Zoho Creator has probably made significant improvements in the UI, and we will be testing it out over the next couple of months.
Will Zoho have a migration tool of any kind available for DabbleDB customers switching over? DabbleDB allows customers to create relationships between tables, to create Web-based forms and reports, to do calculations and totals, all without any programming at all. There's no scripting language in Dabble -- it's all point-and-click in a super easy, intuitive interface.
Will all this work be lost? Will we have to learn Zoho Creator's scripting language to recreate our functionality? Is there any way to port things over?
