Data goes blank after changing options

Hi,

I created a single-choice question using a bunch of radio buttons to select a bunch of names, e.g. Dave, Edwin, Evelyn, and so on.  Data entry had gone on for a while, and I subsequently edited the list to add two more names, and I also re-arranged the existing names so that the choices appeared in alphabetical order.

What happened is that the existing data was changed without warning.  The assignment of some names suddenly shifted, i.e. all the data values which were Dave were suddenly a different name, while others were changed to be blank.

I don't appreciate that my data was over-ridden without warning and I need to find some way to remedy this quickly.  My application is live and data entry is ongoing.  Is there anyway to resolve this problem?
