fixing some data

I want to upload an xls file and then get people to add data to it. I do not want them to change some fields - the names of the students, their ID numbers etc - but I do want them to add data to the students - comments, grades etc.

Is it possible to do this already - if so, how? If not - would it be possible in the future?
