FOLLOW UP EMAILS

Hi, I have a simple advertiser database and have a column where users enter a date to do a follow up on a lead.

is it at all possible for an email or some kind of notification be send to the user to remind them about the follow up date?
this would be a really useful feature for me, but not sure if it can be done.
