How to wrap-around the description of the fields

I was instructed earlier to use "
" (less than br greater than) to wrap around my description fields. It worked great until yesterday. Now my field description has the brackets and the br in it where I want the wrap around to take effect.

Is this a system problem or something that I should be doing differently.
