Making changes to multiple items at the same time

I would like to be able to select multipel items via the check boxes and then make a single change that applies to all items.

For example, I would like the ability to select multiple 'tasks' by selecting their check boxes and then change the items from 'open' to 'closed'. Or change a bunch of 'due dates' all at once rather than one at a time.
