problem with hide field from others option

I want to let you guys know if a field is set to "hide from others", it often wont update properly. I noticed this because I couldn't find certain records in a view that had a criteria based on it. For me it was a field called Job Year and it updated on user input of Job Date. After, I was trying to find completed jobs in a given year. May I suggest getting rid of the "hide from others" option. It's just as easy to hide it within the on load script. I don't really see the point of having both. Thanks.
