Remove the link between app admin roles and org admin privileges

Greetings Zoho One Team,

Currently, assigning someone as an admin in certain Zoho apps, such as Cliq, Connect, Mail, Vault, or Forms (and maybe other apps as well) automatically grants them org admin privileges, even though they are not listed as org admins.


This behavior is both inconsistent and misleading.

For example:

  1. If someone is assigned as an admin in Desk, they remain app-specific admins and do not gain org admin privileges.
  2. However, assigning admin rights in apps like Cliq automatically elevates the user to an org admin, even though their name does not appear in the org admin list.

Request:
We propose decoupling app admin roles from org admin privileges entirely. Assigning someone as an app admin should not grant them org admin privileges under any circumstances unless explicitly configured.

Benefits:

  • Clarity and Consistency: Ensures a clear distinction between app admin and org admin roles.
  • Improved Security: Prevents unintended escalation of privileges at the organizational level.
  • Better Role Management: Allows precise control over admin permissions at both app and org levels.

This change would align the behavior across all Zoho apps and make the system more intuitive for users.
