There's a thread which i 9 years old about this, so I have chosen to start a new one in the expectation it receives fresh energy!

In the "Sales Order" module, "Subject" is a required, single line field.

This renders it absolutely useless for our purposes.

To make it useful (and so that it isn't filled with garbage every time someone needs to create an order) could it PLEASE be modified such that it can be auto-generated?

If this is impossible, could someone clever help me write a function that will update it with an auto-generated number when it's created!
