search using wildcard

it would be helpful to be able to search using wildcards or more complex queries. for example, i have numerous records that include dates from 2006 (mm/dd/yyyy). if i just want a report of all records from 2006, i need to search with a wildcard. i also would like to be able to search for dates before, after, or beteen dates.
