Sow the potential status in contact

Hello,

I would like to be able to show potential names and potential status in the contacts related to the accounts who have a potential.
This would allow our sales people to send easily email updates to potential according to their status.

I undestood this could be achieved through creating a potential field in contact and a custom function. But what this custom function should look like?
