Zoho first major strategic blunder, charging for Creator!
Hi,
As I use ZoHo more and more I am continually impressed with the products and services Zoho continues to make. That said I feel ZoHo has made its first strategic blunder in deciding to charge for Creator. Why would you discourage third party developers from adding value to your products??? Google and Facebook have the right idea they know that letting developers build third party applications will only increase the interests and revenue of their main applications. I was planning on writing several apps to extend or fix missing functionality in ZoHo CRM but now I don't think I will waste my time. As a small business developer I know that people pay for perceived value but charging someone 120 per year per user (that's if I don't charge anything and instead use the apps to attract clients) for say a handful of apps won't fly. The pricing model might make sense for some big Enterprise app but not for a little business app. Besides, creator doesn't even talk to any ZoHo applications within its frame work yet, for that you have to create something outside of it design interface. The thinking of charging for api access in the small business areana is just stupid and it sounds more like you have been sipping Salesforce.com Koolaide... Just my 2 cents!
Thanks
