a spam and domain question

a spam and domain question

I have a domain hosted by zoho, and am beginning to switch to zoho mail for all my personal and work related mail.
I oganise small community events and one of my work mail addresses has to be given out publicly, on publicity and in supporters facebook accounts, blogs,  etc  I have noticed that this email address attracts proliferous spam, and don't want to bring this problem to my domain name. I don't know how spam works in this regard. Even if I use a disposable mail alias for the mail id that is given out publicly, and delete it if the spam becomes too much,  does the domain name itself become a target for spam? Even once the email is deleted, does the spammers system automatically try to discover a new way in?
I realise that I could set up mt zoho mail to pick up the emails from the pop mail account I am currently using, however I prefer to close this account. I also read in the forums that occasionally mail meant to be picked up from the pop mail accounts doesn't make it. Thanks, Jay
