Get anonymous visitors Organisation Name based on Reverse IP Lookup from ICANN / RIPE / ARIN's IP ownership database.
Use case: You send a tracked link via email or in a newsletter, the Lead/Contact clicks on the link to visit your website and from there on, all his visits to your website are tracked. At this point SalesIQ captures the IP address for the visitor.
Assuming, you then have a meeting with the Lead/Contact at their offices and following that other employees come to your website directly or via google. These visitors would remain anonymous and there's no way to track anonymous visitors in the current SalesIQ product.
Now,
- SalesIQ already has a database of IP address from all its customers tracking codes, which is linked to the Company Name of a Contact/Lead/Customer. From this if just the IP and Company Name is retained and curated by Zoho, then it could prove useful. AND/OR
- In addition to that, if SalesIQ could query the ICANN database for IP address ownership, the Organisation Name which owns the IP address can be known. Some of the web analytics packages have this information for example:
- Clicky Analytics
- LeadForensics
- LeadFeeder etc
With these 2 databases, SalesIQ could provide:
- A "likely" company name, if the IP address is an exact match to an existing & previously identified IP address found in the SalesIQ's curated IP address & associated company's name.
- The Organisation Name from the IP ownership data mentioned in point 2 above.
It is understandable, that dynamic IP's or if a user visits from Starbucks nearby or if a user visits from home, it would not be possible to track/guess/identify them. Also, not all businesses may opt for a dedicated IP address.
But businesses do use dedicated IP addresses, which is the very basis for this 'anonymous visitor identification' to work. And then there are likes of LeadForensics who have successfully monitized on this publicly available dataset, while helping others identify anonymous website visitors.
