ActiveSync on iPhone not working

I have recently set up a new Zoho mail account for a test subdomain of mine. The purpose is to check whether to recommend Zoho to new customers that have so far been using Google Apps for free.

I have stumbled into a problem: when setting up Exchange Push on the iPhone, it doesn't seem to work. Whenever I try to enter the account's inbox, I get the following error message: "Cannot get mail - the connection to the server failed".

I have:
- enabled Push in the admin control panel
- set up the Exchange account using msync.zoho.com as the server name
- tried both username@my.domain.com and username@zoho.com as usernames (they both verify correctly)

I am testing using the free 5 GB account, but I understand that ActiveSync push should be enabled for free accounts too, as of June 2012.

What else could I do to troubleshoot this?
