add contact name merge field value to email templates in CRM

Hi.
I don't quite understand why this is not already a possibilty but don't you think it would be an amazing idea to have the ability to include the contact name as a merge field in the email templates that can be created in the CRM templates module?

If not then can you please explain why?
If it is actually possible then can you tell me how please?
