Adding a reference number to new leads

Is there a way for Zoho to automatically apply a reference number to new leads in chronological order?  For instance, if we create a new lead it would start at say 00001.  The next one would be 00002, etc.  We've been using a hit counter to dole out reference numbers and add them manually, but it would be a lot easier if Zoho could do it automatically.
