We hope you are doing well.
We would like to submit a feature request regarding the ability to manage and correct system ownership fields in Zoho Projects, specifically:
- Task → Created By
- Issue → Reporter / Reported By
Current Behavior:
At the moment, these fields are automatically determined during creation/import and cannot be modified afterward — not through the UI, not through the API, and apparently not even through backend support actions.
During our migration from Jira to Zoho Projects, many Tasks and Issues were assigned to the wrong creator/reporter due to a bug from zoho side (#152846267)
As a result:
- Tasks were created under the wrong user
- Issues were assigned to incorrect reporters
After the migration completed, we discovered there is currently no supported way to fix these ownership fields.
Why this is a problem:
The “Created By” and “Reporter” fields are extremely important metadata fields.
Incorrect ownership information causes:
- Incorrect historical audit trail
- Incorrect alerts - alerts and information is sent to the wrong people.
- Problems in reporting and analytics

Migration inaccuracies from systems like Jira

Loss of trust in imported historical data
Additionally, forcing organizations to completely re-import projects is often unrealistic because:
- Work has already continued in Zoho Projects
- IDs and relationships already changed
- New tasks/issues/comments were already added
- Re-importing would create duplicates and additional inconsistencies
Requested Enhancement:
We kindly request the ability for Super Admins to edit these fields when necessary.
This should ideally include:
- Ability to edit Task “Created By”
- Ability to edit Issue “Reporter / Reported By”
- Support through both UI and API
- Optional audit logging for compliance purposes
- Permission restricted to high-level admins only
Benefits:
- Proper migration correction capabilities
- Accurate historical data and reporting
- Better traceability and accountability
- Reduced dependency on risky re-imports
- Stronger enterprise migration support from Jira and other systems
- Improved administrative flexibility
Even if these fields are considered “system fields,” administrators should still have controlled override capabilities for migration and correction scenarios.
This enhancement would improve the migration experience and long-term data integrity within Zoho Projects.
