Can't get the outgoing mail setup on android devices (or ipads it seems)

This is multiple accounts set up in the same way. 

2 factor Auth is NOT set up

imap / pop are both enabled in the admin app

passwords have been confirmed. 

set to smtp.zoho.com

set to SSL port 465

Have also tried TLS on port 587

Android mail client happily sets up the smtp server after checking. 

Works from Thunderbird. 

Sad, because so far I am liking Zoho mail, but can't use it
