Approval Process Not Working when Updating Field in the Account Page

Hello,

First a bit of background:
  • Each of our accounts is assigned a rank based on potential sales.
  • In Zoho, the account rank field is a drop-down with the 5 rank levels and is located on the account information page
  • If a sales rep wants to change the rank, they may do so, but the change requires sales manager approval. 
  • I set up an Approval Process, which is being tested now with one rep and their manager.
Here's what is happening:
  • If the rep views "All Accounts" in the Accounts module, checks the boxes next to the accounts they want to update and performs a mass update on the Rank field, the sales manager receives the notification as intended and the Approvals module reflects the Pending/Approved/Rejected accounts. 
  • If the rep opens the specific Account page, changes the rank field, and clicks save, the rank is updated automatically; no notification is sent to the sales manager and nothing appears in the Approvals module. 
So, I believe something is not working in this latter instance. Either that, or Zoho doesn't recognize a "change" as an "update," which I would find odd. 

Any thoughts/suggestions?
