Asset Utilization Within Projects?

Can anyone recommend how to accommodate Asset Utilization (tracking an asset's use) within Projects? For example, we are a Chemistry environment, with instruments used for analysis, that we need to track usage for. There will be Tasks (analyses) created for each user that will be performed on any number of Assets (instruments), e.g. Analyze XYZ Samples (the task) on ABC instrument (the Asset). Should we just make each instrument a User as well, and just assign the same task to the instrument / User...or is there a better way to track usage of an Asset that is associated with given Tasks in Projects? I hope that makes sense?
