Scrolling endlessly through numerous threads in a Cliq channel and manually counting how many have been closed, how long people took to reply, and who actually participated can be tedious. After 20 minutes, you might have a number that no one can verify. Suddenly, your first task of the week becomes a complex analytics project.
But what if we could streamline this process with a single prompt? Let's create an AI agent using Cliq's MCP tools to handle the counting instead. This agent can post the results directly back to the channel in a table format, eliminating the need for a manually created spreadsheet.
Point it to a channel and specify a time window. It will read every thread, calculate the real numbers, and generate reports on demand.
Pre-requisites :
What you need is an MCP client connected to Cliq tools (Claude, or any MCP-compatible agent), and admin access to the channel you want to report on.
The table below lists the required Zoho Cliq MCP tools for generating the report, organized by their specific roles.
Category
| Tool
| Purpose
|
Data Collection
| ZohoCliq_list_channel_threads
| Paginates a channel's threads for the reporting window and resolves requester IDs to real names via the sender_name field in last_message_information.
|
Report Delivery
| ZohoCliq_textmessageformat
| Formats and delivers the full report, tables, lists, charts, and graphs in a single combined message.
|
Report Delivery
| ZohoCliq_mention_user_silent
| Provides the silent-mention syntax [Name](zohoid:id) for non-notifying, named mentions inside table cells.
|
Tool Capability Check
| ZohoCliq_get_thread_details
| Returns thread metadata only; no reply history, so it cannot power response-time metrics.
|
Tool Capability Check
| ZohoCliq_get_thread_main_message
| Returns only a thread's opening message, not its Full reply history.
|
Tool Capability Check
| ZohoCliq_list_chats
| Resolves a channel's CHAT_ID from its display name.

How it works?
- The agent maps the channel you name to a channel ID and converts your time period into explicit start and end timestamps.
- It fetches every thread in that channel and range, paginating until it has the full set.
- For each thread, it reads the full message history, not just the summary, so metrics like time first to reply and replies per thread come from real data rather than estimates.
- It posts the results back to Cliq as a table card: one table for thread counts, one for response times, one for activity, and one ranking top contributors.

Why it is worth building?
- Skip the manual thread-by-thread count when someone asks how a channel is doing this week.
- See response times and top contributors without building a dashboard or exporting anything.
- Runs on Cliq's own MCP tools, so the report reflects what actually happened in the channel, not a snapshot from a separate tool.
Business use cases where this pays off
- Support and helpdesk channels where response time is the number everyone asks about, but nobody wants to calculate
- Project channels where a lead needs to know who's actually replying, not just who's listed as a member
- Community or partner channels where a quiet week or one person answering everything is worth catching early
